In 2023, Scott entered private practice after a 17-year career as a trial attorney and civil prosecutor at the U.S. Department of Justice. He brings to our partnership recognized expertise in fraud investigation, debtor-creditor issues, bankruptcy litigation, and complex financial transactions. Having represented the United States Trustee in thousands of cases, Scott developed a meticulous knowledge of civil procedure, evidence, and the fine points of both written and courtroom advocacy. His expansive experience includes supervising chapter 11 bankruptcy cases, prosecuting hundreds of complaints to permanently deny individual bankruptcy discharges, helping to prosecute claims against national mortgage servicers in the wake of the 2009 financial crisis, and representing the United States in D.C. District Court in the habeas corpus proceedings of detainees at the Guantanamo Bay U.S. Naval Base.

Scott’s accomplishments:

  • Prevented discharge of hundreds of millions of dollars in bankruptcy claims by successfully investigating, filing, and litigating civil fraud cases against bankruptcy debtors

  • Pursued relief for victims of foreclosure fraud through extensive discovery on major U.S. financial institutions, contributing to outcomes such as the $16.65 billion Bank of America settlement in 2014

  • Term Federal Law Clerk to the Hon. John S. Dalis, U.S. Bankruptcy Court, Southern District of Georgia

  • Entered the U.S. Department of Justice through the prestigious Attorney General Honors Program

  • Assisted in defending appeals of his successful actions, including Vara v. McDonald (In re McDonald), 29 F.4th 817(6th Cir. 2022)

  • Supervised, evaluated, and supported chapter 7 and standing chapter 13 trustees

  • Managed trial teams of bankruptcy auditors, paralegal specialists, and legal clerks at the Office of the United States Trustee

  • Wrote the U.S. government’s initial pleadings against three Guantanamo Bay detainees

  • Served as faculty at the U.S. Department of Justice’s premier training institution, the National Advocacy Center in Columbia, SC with focus on coursework on evidence and trial advocacy
